The assessment of PV devices is a key issue,as the commercial value of a PV cell or module is directly linked to its maximum power value (Pmax) measured under standard conditions.To determine this value,a calibrated solar simulator is used at the end of each production line to test any single device.The measurement accuracy and reliability of such equipment is thus of prime importance,as are the QA process and testing environment which will also contribute to the final uncertainty.The advantages of a reliable measurement for manufacturers are that a) they will sell their production at therightprice b) their profitability will be determined by this reliability.For the final customers or investors a reliable measurement will ensure that they really get the performance they have paid for from the manufacturer.This presentation will define and present the importance of accuracy and precision for PV measurement,and relate this to the impact that thecostof measurement uncertainty has for a PV producer as well as for its customer.It will particularly highlight the key points each PV producer should be aware of while assessing a production,as well as the ways to reduce the PV measurement uncertainty.A reliable PV performance measurement is a contributing factor in enabling the industry to reduce costs and work towards grid parity.Our goal is to make PV producers as well as a wider community in the industry aware of the latest technological developments in the field and their impact on the performance measurement.
