Glutamate neurotransmission is widely represented in brain and in retina in particular, which is regarded as a biological model of central nervous system.The glutamate NMDA (N-methyl-Daspartate) receptors studies in the retina are of great importance, as the three major types of retinal neurons photoreceptors, bipolar cells and ganglion cells, are glutamatergic.
