A bstract Since its establishment in Ruijin Hospital, the Centre aimed at running multicentre randomized controlled clin ical trials in China, the Asian Pacific region or worldwide.The trial activities in the Centre focus on but do not re strict to hypertension.Indeed, we are currently organizing or participating in trials in several medical disciplines.such as cardiology, neurology, respiratory medicine, endocrine and metabolism, and nephrology.The IMPACT (Imidapril for Prevention in Asians of Coronary Threads) trial is being planned to test the hy pothesis that an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor would provide more coronary protection than an angiotensin receptor blocker in patients with coronary artery disease.The IMPACT trial will be conducted in the departments of cardiology at more than 70 hospitals in China and Japan.
