Stroke is a leading cause of death,and remains a major cause of disability.Up to now,few therapies,such as early t-PA application,are clinical effective along with narrow therapy time window and adverse side-effects.Since rapid necrosis in ischemic core can occur in minutes or hours,while delayed cell death in penumbra didnt happen until several days later,rescue opportunities in penumbra rather than that in ischemic core are much more applicable.Mechanisms of delayed cell death are complex and overlapping,involving degradation and synthesis of proteins as signal molecules and executors.
