Onset of shear thickening in frictionless granular system

In Newtonian fluids,the shear viscosity is essentially independent of shear rate.For most non-Newtonian fluids,the viscosity decreases with increases shear rate,and the fluid is said to exhibit shear thinning.Few are reported to do the opposite possibility of shear thickening whereby the viscosity increases with shear rate.
