Infectious bronchitis (IB), an acute, highly contagious viral disease of chickens, is caused by infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), a prototype of gammacoronavirus, which has a significant economic impact in nearly all poultry-producing countries.Outbreaks of nephropathogenic IBV infection have been persistent and frequent in vaccinated commercial broiler flocks worldwide, with a high incidence and morbidity.The effectiveness of live and inactivated IB vaccines has not been sufficient to control the disease because there are a very large number of IBV serotypes, and, interestingly, chicken breeds vary with respect to the severity of IBV infection, which may be related to the immune response.Thus far, many studies have focused on the variation, evolution and natural recombination of the virus itself, but reports on the host response to IBV infection have been limited.
