The watershed,as the catchment area in surface water system,is a relative complete ecosystem.Intense mining activity did great damage to nature environmental resource in the full mine reserved watershed area and made great influence on watershed hydrology, land utilization, vegetation cover, landscape and other ecological factors. The entire watershed ecosystem was significantly changed by mining activity. This paper studied watershed body, vegetation cover, soil erosion and other ecological factors, using GIS hydrological analysis,multi-temporal remote sense detection, digital evaluation modeling and mining subsidence modeling to evaluate ecological response index of plain watershed mining (ERIcum) and assessment process of ecological influence. The ecological impact assessment model and methodon plain watershed mining was built up at the end.The Nihe river watershed in Huainan city was studied in this paper. The boundary conditions and vegetation cover information were collected by ArcGIS and Landsat TM/ETM data.Based on the SRTM DEM data and mining subsidence probability-integral modeling, future evolution on water, soil, vegetation was predicted and ecological impact on watershed mining was also evaluated. The result showed that the vegetation cover index, biological abundance index ecreased, and the land deterioration index and water density index increased during 2009-2030 period,in which water density index increased significantly leading to the increasing ofecological response Index. However, the reduction of biological diversity and vegetation cover rate caused by mining should warrant additional research.
