Perovskites solar cells (PSCs) emerging as a promising third-generation photovoltaic (PV) technology have attracted worldwide attention attributed to the high light-absorption coefficient, long carrier diffusion length, and the solution processibility of perovskite materials. In 2009,the first PSC structure was derived from the traditional dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) with liquid electrolyte. After ten years, the efficiency record of PSCs has increased to over 25%,approaching the efficiency of bulk silicon solar cells,by the development of advanced deposition techniques for high-quality perovskite films, rational charge transport layer design, heterojunction engineering, and the efficient defect passivation.Furthermore, several venture companies such as Oxford PV,Microquanta, and GCL New Energy are pushing forward the commercialization of PSCs step by step. They reported both the cells and modules had passed the stability test according to the IEC standards. In this presentation,I will comprehensively review the development history of DSCs,which was a pioneer of third generation solar cells, because the development process, experience of successes and failures will serve as the guidelines to direct the future research works on PSCs in both basic research and commercialization.
