Parafoveal processing affects outgoing saccade length during Chinese reading

Due to the absence of inter-word spaces in Chinese sentence,readers cannot direct to a specific position within a word during Chinese reading.Previous studies showed that the foveal load (e.g.,word frequency of the fixated word) can modulate outgoing saccade length.There are two possibilities to explain this phenomenon.First,the foveal load can modulate outgoing saccade length directly,regardless of the parafoveal processing.Second,the foveal load modulate parafoveal processing which results in more characters at parafovea are processed when the fovea load is low.
