Maintaining genetic diversity of threatened populations is the fundamental goal of conservation biology,since genetic diversity is essential for the long-term viability of a population.Demographic processes and selection have been identified as the main drivers in shaping patterns of genetic variation.However,the relative roles of demography and selection in small or declined populations remain controversial.
