The Couette-Taylor reactor (CTR) has been widely investigated owing to woblems in fluid mechanics and its engineering applications.CTR is advantageous in creation and easy control of turbulence without using a blade type mixer that could result in breakage of crystals.In This study,simulations and experiments of cooling crystallization are presented for CTR.A simplified model for CTR is developed by modification of existing CTR models.The parameters about fluid characteristics in the model are determined using the information obtained from characteristic anadysis of fluid dynamics by CFD (Comsol Multiphysics).The experiments for residence-time distribution (RTD) of PDMA particles and colored tracer in DI water are conducted in order to estimate the model parameters related to mess transfer and particle mixing.For the model validation,the experiments are carried out under various operating conditions such as concentrations of tracer,cylinder rotation speed,and feed flow rate.Moreover,the experiments of crystallization using CTR with an inorganic material are performed and compared to those using MSMPR.Finally,using the developed model,the optimal operating condition is found,and then verified by the experiments.
