Materials prepared on the nanoscale are usually obtained using "top down" and "bottom up" methods.The "top down" method is a traditional fabrication technique offering arbitrary geometrical designs and superior nanometer-level precision, accuracy, and registration; it employs the two-dimensional etching, deposition, and layer-by-layer manufacturing processes that constitute the foundation of current microelectronic technologies.
