　　Atrial fibrillation is the most common sustained cardiac rhythm disturbance to affect humans and causes one-third of strokes in patients over 60 years.The frequency of atrial fibrillation rises rapidly after the sixth decade with a prevalence of approximately 5%in the general population over the age of 65 years and 10% in subjects over 75 years of age.
