Recently, food trace substances (e.g., impurities, contaminants) have caused serious concerns worldwide.In striving for solutions to these concerns, trace analytical techniques have become more important in food science.For edible oils, as process contaminants, 3-monochloro-l,2-propandiol esters were discovered in 2006, while more recently it was revealed that glycidol fatty acid esters (GEs) exist in edible oils at the g/g (ppm) range.The German Standard Method, typically used in European countries, to measure these contaminants in edible oils is based on indirect difference procedures using GC-MS following complicated pretreatments.
