Contamination of environmental surfaces in hospital rooms is now recognized as playing an important role in the transmission of several key healthcare-associated pathogens, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycinresistant enterococci (VRE), Clostridium difficile, Acinetobacter species and norovirus.
