Objective To investigate the influencing factors of serum leptin concentration in patients with acute cerebral infarction and its relationship with insulin resistance. Methods Serum leptin concentrations in 50 patients with acute cerebral infarction and 50 controls were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results ① The obese women (BMI≥25) had a significantly higher serum leptin level than the control group in acute cerebral infarction group (P = 0.001). (2) Serum leptin levels were higher in both groups than in men (P = 0.000); ③ Serum leptin level was positively correlated with BMI (P = 0.000) and negatively correlated with insulin sensitivity index (P = 0.000) There was a significant positive correlation between FINS (P = 0.000) and FBG (P = 0.001). Conclusion Serum leptin level is significantly higher in patients with obese acute cerebral infarction. Serum leptin level is closely related to gender, BMI and insulin resistance.
