Advanced high strength steel(AHSS)iswidely used in the automotive industry because of its advantages for weight reduction and for the resulting improvement in crashworthiness and safety. However it is still a challenge to fabricate AHSS products at room temperature due to its high strength and limited elongation. This greatly limits the new materials application and the spread of its use.Chain-die forming has been proposed and developed as an extension to roll forming in fabricating AHSS products. It has shown its superiority by reducing redundant plastic strains during forming and nearly zero residual stresses can be achieved through increasing the length of deformation zone, via increasing the apparent roll radius. In this paper,an experimental investigation is aiming to demonstrate the working principle and investigate the characteristics of Chain-die forming AHSS products with various material properties and geometrical dimensions which can further expand the application of Chain-die forming and accelerate its commercialization, particularly in automotive industry. As the longitudinal strain, residual strain and springback are regarded as the crucial factors in the quality evaluation of AHSS products, the relationships and comparisons of these factorsof Chain-die formed AHSS products with various material properties and geometrical dimensions are presented. Finally, some concluding remarks for further study are made from the experimental investigation.
