Breast cancer is a genetically heterogeneous disease.At molecular and pathological level, breast cancer can be classified into at least four subtypes, including luminal A and B, basal and Her+/ER-subtypes.These subtypes of breast cancer are often associated with varying clinical outcomes in response to the currently available therapeutic strategies.To better treat breast cancer patients, more effective and targeted drugs are urgently needed.Toward this end, we have taken an integrated approach, combining genomic and gene expression, functional and clinical data, to identify genes that may serve as molecularly targeted drug targets.Discussions will focus on the use of BAC CGH for profiling of genomic aberrations in breast cancer cells and the genome-wide siRNA libraries for discovery of functionally relevant genes.
