Mucin-type O-glycosylation is one of the most important post-translational modifications of protein.A large enzyme family of UDP-GalNAc:polypeptide -Nacetylgalactosaminyltransferase (ppGalNAc-T,EC 2.4.1.41) catalyzes the initial step in the biosynthesis of mucin-type O-glycan by transferring GalNAc from UDP-GalNAc to the hydroxyl group of Ser and Thr residue of protein acceptors.
