MgB2 wires have potential for future applications provided that sufficiently high current carrying capacity is made possible using low cost production methods.Extensive elongation of the sheathing metals in wire making cause very divergent microstructures which results in heavily changed mechanical properties.Hardness and tensile strength of the sheathing material are important parameters for wire drawing of powder-in-tube wires.
