Density functional theory is widely used to treat lanthanides.However,how the self-interaction error(SIE)[1] affects the properties of 4f orbitals is still an open question.In this study,we choose five Lu(III)complexes [2-3] and eight common used exchange-correlation functionals,and compared the 4f-like MOs properties with two parameters of Exc,i.e.,SIE and amount of HF exchange.We conclude that while HF exchange lowers the 4f orbital energies significantly,the consequences of SIE is much more complex.
