Sustainable environmental development requires the development of settlement and housing units that facilitate equitable access to public resources and service opportunities for human satisfaction.The aim of the study was to assess the performance of Housing Corporations through the use of housing development indicators such as proximity to public utilities and services providedin the neighbourhoods with a view to assess the relevance of sustainable housing developments to sustainable environmental development.The major objective is to measure the environmental qualities of the housing units developed by Public Housing Developers in developing countries citing Nigeria as a case study.Literature on relevant topics such as the housing development, housing policy and housing development efforts in Nigeria were reviewed.Systematic random sampling technique was used to choose three states in the study area.It was discovered that the environmental quality of housing estates developed by Public Housing Developers was low but differs.It was recommended that State Governments should encourage public housing developers through funding and timely provision of infrastructure in their developments.Sustainable environmental measures should also be embraced by professionals in housing development sector irrespective of their function.
