The Biological Chemistry Department at Rothamsted Research, UK is well known for its development of the synthetic pyrethroids.However, pesticide resistance developed by pests and environmental impacts that these chemicals brought have caused peoples concerns.We continue our pioneering work on the molecular mechanisms by which insects resist pesticides and developing diagnosis methods for detecting the resistance.We have started the exploitation of plant stress signals for induced crop defense.New approaches have also developed in the field of chemical ecology and similar approaches are now being used to elucidate the molecular nature of insect olfaction.
