Contents ofCu、 Pb、 Zn、 Cd、 Cr、 Hg、 As in the surface sediments of Xiamen Bay were analyzed. The concentrations of heavy metal concentrations (Hg, Cd, Cu, Cr, Pb, Zn, As) in sediments of Xiamen Bay range from 1.22 ~57.2, 6.74 ~76.6, 13.3 ~150.0, 0.035~0.531, 1.48 ~92.7, 0.018~0.164, 1.9 ~10.9 mg·kg-1.The principal component analysis showed that three principal components have been extracted covering 72.70% of the cumulative variance. The heavy metals in sediment of Xiamen bay were mainly from desorption of organic matter, that industrial sewage and the characteristics of sedimentary environment. All stations in the studied area recorded Eir < 40 for Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr and As, which were low risk, while Cd reported the highest ecological risk. The results of RI showed that 40.9% of stations in the Xiamen Bay revealed indicating a low risk, while 45.5% of stations revealed indicating a moderate risk, and the rest revealed low ecological risk.
