An efficient quinoline-derived fluorescent chemosensor(named QLSA)for the detection of Zn2+ was reported.This sensor was facilely synthesized via a simple linker NH2–NH2 connected quinoline-2-carboxylic acid and salicylaldehyde.QLSA displayed favorable selectivity for Zn2+ over other common metal ions with high sensitivity(the detection limit 21 nM),and lead tosignificant fluorescence OFF–ON switching.In the structure of QLSA,the N atoms of quinoline unit and-CH=N-bond,and the O atom of-OH coordinate the center Zn(II)and form two six-membered rings,which would stabilize the complex.Unlike classical conjugated organic probes with smaller Stokes shift,this chemosensor exhibited a large Stokes shift over 170 nm.The mechanism of the interaction between QLSA and Zn2+ has been investigated via NMR and HRMS analysis.Moreover,further application of this sensor in fluorescence imaging was studied in Hela cell by confocal fluorescence microscopy,suggesting that this chemosensor was proved to be a useful tool for tracking Zn2+ levels in vivo.
