Many women after receiving breast cancer treatment experience symptoms of menopause.In clinical settings, women report that they find menopausal symptoms difficult to comprehend and manage.Using semi-structured focus groups, we explored womens beliefs and experiences about their menopausal symptoms after completing treatment for breast cancer.We also explored how women managed these symptoms, and whether the experiences of younger and older women differed.Data were interpreted by way of simple thematic analysis.The women in this study experienced a variety of menopausal symptoms.Many women reported that they were unprepared for these symptoms, and found these symptoms difficult to discuss with their health professionals and to manage day-to-day.Younger women reported additional menopausal issues than women who were older at diagnosis, including concerns about fertility and being isolated form their age peers.Women identified that their needs with regard to menopause management after breast cancer were not being met, either through their own lack of knowledge or via conflicting or absent support and management.
