The mineral extraction through mining process drastically alters the physical,and biological nature of a mined area.An important mine of Silica,a major mineral used in glass industry,is situated in Allahabad District of Uttar Pradesh state and its quarrying and open cast mining have caused an extensive soil damage and by the process of removing desired mineral material,the uppermost fertile layer of soil is lost resulting into long barren and unproductive lands.Analyzing important soil properties are essential for managing soil resources to meet sustainable mine reclamation.Therefore present research was aimed to study soil quality of silica mining area.Physico-chemical properties (Soil texture,water holding capacity,pH,conductivity,moisture content,total nitrogen,available phosphorous and organic matter) of soils from mining and undisturbed (un mined) site were analyzed.It was observed that coarse -fragments were higher in mining area soil as compared to the soil from undisturbed area.Whereas Water Holding Capacity,moisture content,electrical conductivity,pH,soil organic matter,available Nitrogen,Phosphorous and Potassium for soil from un mined area were higher to those for the soil from mining area.Soil pH of mining area was acidic.
